Aprilia’s V4 range offers two distinct ways to experience its flagship engine technology: the fully faired RSV4 superbike and the Tuono V4 roadster. Both combine a 1,099cc V4 engine with an aluminium chassis and advanced rider electronics, but each brings a different approach to performance motorcycling.
The RSV4 puts the emphasis on superbike performance, aerodynamics and a focused riding position. The Tuono V4 combines its own powerful engine specification with upright handlebars and a more open riding position.
Both are available in standard and Factory versions, giving riders a choice of suspension and equipment. Here’s how the range compares.
The RSV4 sits at the heart of Aprilia’s superbike range. Its liquid-cooled, 1,099cc V4 engine meets Euro 5+ emissions requirements and produces 220hp at 13,000rpm, with 127Nm of torque at 10,800rpm.
The engine uses a compact 65-degree V4 layout, paired with an aluminium twin-spar chassis. Its fully faired bodywork incorporates aerodynamic winglets, bringing a distinctive appearance with technology influenced by Aprilia’s racing development.
Braking equipment includes Brembo Hypure front calipers, while a 5-inch colour TFT display provides the rider with key information and access to the motorcycle’s settings.
The RSV4 is the starting point for riders drawn to Aprilia’s fully faired V4 experience. Its appeal extends beyond the headline power figure: the chassis, braking system, aerodynamics and electronic controls all contribute to its focused superbike specification.
The RSV4 Factory retains the same headline engine performance while adding premium equipment, including forged aluminium wheels and Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension.
The electronically controlled suspension allows riders to tailor its behaviour, with semi-active and manual operating modes. In semi-active operation, the system adjusts damping as riding conditions change.
The Factory also features an electronically controlled Öhlins steering damper, further distinguishing its chassis specification. These upgrades make the Factory particularly worth considering if suspension technology and adjustability are high on your list.
Its equipment also includes backlit handlebar controls and Aprilia MIA connectivity. When comparing an RSV4 with an RSV4 Factory, look beyond engine output and consider the complete equipment package: the Factory’s additional hardware is a central part of the difference.
The Tuono V4 takes Aprilia’s V4 formula in a different direction. Its 1,099cc engine produces 180hp at 11,800rpm and 121Nm of torque at 9,650rpm, giving it a different engine specification from the RSV4.
Upright handlebars and a roadster riding position change the experience, while the frame-mounted half-fairing provides wind protection without enclosing the motorcycle in full superbike bodywork.
The standard Tuono V4 uses fully adjustable Sachs suspension, allowing its settings to be tailored to the rider and intended use. An aluminium chassis and Brembo braking equipment complete the core package.
For riders deciding between Aprilia’s two V4 families, the riding position is an important consideration. The Tuono brings the performance and character of a large-capacity V4 into a format that may better suit those who prefer upright handlebars.
The Tuono V4 Factory shares the standard model’s engine output and adds Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension, including electronically controlled front forks, rear shock absorber and steering damper.
The system offers both semi-active and manual settings, giving riders a choice in how the suspension responds. It is one of the clearest reasons to consider the Factory version.
A 5-inch colour TFT display, backlit controls and LED lighting complement the chassis equipment. The Tuono’s winglets and compact half-fairing give it a purposeful appearance while retaining the exposed layout that defines the range.
The Factory is therefore worth a closer look if you want the Tuono’s roadster ergonomics alongside a more sophisticated suspension package.
Start with the riding experience you want. If your priority is a fully faired superbike with a focused riding position, explore the RSV4. If you prefer upright handlebars and roadster styling, take a closer look at the Tuono V4.
Then compare the standard and Factory versions. Consider how you plan to use the motorcycle, how much suspension adjustability matters to you and which equipment you would actually use.
Whether you are considering an RSV4 or a Tuono V4, Sycamore Motorcycles can help you compare the range and discuss the specification of your preferred model.
